I will always and forever be a sucker for exposed timber ceilings. The simplicity and natural allure of an open ceiling is enchanting. Timber framed barns and homes are among some of the most resilient and longest standing wooden structures. I have always admired the craftsmanship that goes into creating them.
This home was designed by Houses & Barns by John Libby. Not only is he a family friend of mine but a craftsman whose work I have always admired. He began many years ago restoring barns in Maine. Over the years he had learned so much about these beautiful timber framed structures that he started his own company and now builds his own timber framed barns and custom homes. His creations are absolutely breathtaking. He combines traditional residential building with timber framing, producing masterpieces that very few have the talent to design, construct and perfect.
John's ability as a craftsman allows him to turn a simple bedroom into a place of serenity and sophistication.
He is the master of the art of timber framing. Just imagine standing in a room like this!
In each of these rooms John Libby uses the oldest form of wooden construction and the oldest building material to make the biggest statement. There is still style while maintaining the same functionality, familiarity and comfort that is found in the rafters of a barn. Brining that warmth and peaceful connection from a barn can transform a house into a home and a simple cottage into a retreat.
It is my dream to one day have the privilege to work with John Libby and his team to create a structure like the ones I have shared with you here. Please visit John's website to see more of his amazing work.
